In Pakistan poverty is an epidemic. It affects the country so deeply that it is known as a poor nation. With a population of roughly 197 million and growing, about one third make less than $1 a day. In such economic conditions feeding oneself (and family) is usually the most important objective; hygiene, sanitation, prevention are all foreign concepts to those living in these impoverished conditions. Thus, Woh Ehsaas ran a shoe drive all summer long to help give every child in Nohtar village (located in interior Sindh in Tharparkur desert) shoes. In a village where temperatures often rise to 100+ degrees Fahrenheit for 6 months of the year it’s crucial that everyone especially young kids to protect themselves from the scorching heat, insects, burns, and unsanitary conditions.
With the help of our donors we were able to collect 198 pairs of shoes. Our volunteers went with us to help distribute these to the Nohtar children, mostly those between the ages of 6-16. Our goal is to help teach these children the benefits of wearing shoes and how it’ll help enable better quality of life, improve their health, and create awareness about sanitization.
