With the help of our sponsors and donors we have launched our vocational school initiative!

As per our mission, we provide the resources and platform to help empower underprivileged women to become financially independent – and based on our research, sewing is a viable option towards achieving just that.

With the demand for tailors ever increasing in the Pakistani market, we think this is one of the beneficial skills we can teach underprivileged women. The average tailor is able to make a decent living. Having mastered the skill of sewing - women will then be able to work from home, have flexible hours, pass the skills on to their children (and/or relatives), and provide a comfortable living for their families.

Our first batch of students have begun their training under the supervision of a thoroughly vetted tailor. Lessons begin with basic conceptual work- teaching the students how to properly place their supplies (what is needed), identification of the parts of a sewing machine (solar machines, electrical, hand etc), and what materials are used in their specific machine. Once they have graduated from conceptual studies they are taught basic hand stitching- buttons, how to repair a small tear, and different types of stitching (interlock, back tack, backstitch, blanket stitch etc.). The last part in their curriculum, and the most intensive is the hands-on sewing machine experience. * In our current vocational school, classes are held 5 days a week, 2 hours a day, for a total of 10 hours weekly. It is worth mentioning that there is no deadline for students to master the craft by- they will continue to be taught until the teacher thinks they are ready to graduate.

We want to ensure that we give these women a quality training in the craft.

*Each enrollee is given a different training time period as some have the basic knowledge of the craft while others do not.

“I can't begin to thank Woh Ehsaas enough for giving me the opportunity to learn. This is the first time I've had a teacher of my own...for anything.”

Spoken by our student Nasreen Omer.
